Cons:

This welder does not come with everything a basic welder needs, you have to upgrade the welder buying some accessories from outside. The welder comes with a 230V, 50Amp NEMA 6-50 male plug which is not shown or mentioned in the description or the pictures.

The welder comes with a small sample spool of .030 flux core wire, two .030 contact tips, a gauge for your argon or argon co2 mix tanks and a metal thickness gauge. Now, if you are a beginner and ordering this welder, order/purchase extra tips at the same time as you might be needing it because you only get two tips included with the welder.

Hobart makes it easy to set up the speed and voltage for the size wire and metal you will be welding. I would highly recommend someone starting to get the Hobart Handler 190 if you are contemplating getting a 120-volt Mig (I’ve had one) as you can’t go wrong.

Down the line, you won’t need to upgrade if you need a welder with more power and a longer Duty Cycle. If there is anything that I would change on this welder it would be the ground clamp, I would probably go with a magnetic ground clamp.

Conclusion For Hobart MIG Welder:

The welder came with everything needed except Mig pliers and PPE. The included wire is flux core so be prepared to buy some wire. You can run a 70/20 mix of a gas welder. The ground clamp is nice for now but I will end up replacing it shortly.

If you are planning on using this unit on a car project then I strongly suggest building yourself a power extension cable as the power cable is pretty short, 2 meters or so.

I also suggest spending the money and buying a good auto-darkening welders helmet which has common sized glass ( day to find replacements) and a welding jacket and gloves.

If you are doing any kind of overhead work you will quickly learn that splatter will most certainly leave a mark.

The Hobart MIG welder is well deserved for the Hobbyist and to do a bit on the side to supplement my “Fixed” income of overhauling/repairing Lawn Tractors-Mowers-Trailers-Frames.

I did not want a No-Name brand or Chinese knock-off, I studied many Hobart handler190 Reviews before making my choice of what to get and the requirements I needed to make.

I finally chose the Hobart Handler 190 MIG 230 V, it is not the cheapest one nor is it the most expensive either and will handle material thickness of up to 1/4in. even for “Hardened ” steel such as “Armor Plate” & with the optional “Spooler” it can be used on Aluminum as well.

I have always had a shaking problem in my hands, and you must be able to have steady hand/eye coordination to do this type of welding all the time. You would love to do this type of welding because it is a much prettier professional-looking weld and it can be done on some pretty thin material.

Plus the purchase of the Hobart Handler190 will pay itself off in jobs. The 190 welder not only serves the purpose of welding, but it can also be used in extra work.

I do suggest getting the Pliers they advertise to go with the unit, spring-loaded to keep them open and much better quality than a regular set of cutters plus they are designed to be able to knock off the build-up/spatter that occurs inside of the gun nozzle as long as you use the Gel in tandem in it.

When using “Stainless” wire with Argon Gas everything you use for cleaning it up after you weld you must have its clean-up system ie: wire wheel, brushes, files, burr bits, etc. These items must be dedicated to stainless use only because of the cross-contamination of the materials results in a weak weld.

So, All in All, the Hobart Handler 190 230V is a great choice for seasoned or beginner welders out there especially if you don`t want to be disappointed with its quality and performance.

But by all means when making your order do not forget the accessories & your Back-ups, also do not forget to get the Cart with the drawers to keep your extra in and in one place and do purchase an extension cord for it because you are going to want to move you MIG 190 around to get to your work.

So expect to spend around $1400.00 all together for everything you will need unless you want to purchase a set of bottles/filled, and cable to run from you Main and at least a 30-amp circuit breaker.

A 150ft. the cable could run as much as $220 and would be a good idea to enclose it in conduit for prolonged protection even if it is classified as a “Direct Bury” cable and does not forget getting an 8ft.

Copper steak to plunge as Lightning Protection Insurance, just make double sure the bigger the size the cable you connect to the stake the better the machine will be. The welder saves a load of time and effort when needing to scab a piece of steel to plug a hole in a mower deck and they make such a clean-cut too.

My opinion is to get one with at least 50-60 foot hoses and by all means, go for the Gold and go straight for a Victor set-up of torch & gauges, you will be glad you spent that extra money for it. Victor OR Smith are good choices.

Overall a highly recommended welder for the professional as well as for the beginners for perfect welding!
